QLD: Police seek answers on weapons find at school
By Crystal Ja
GOLD COAST, Feb 5 AAP - Police with metal detectors are searching a Gold Coast primary
school after two rifles were found partially buried beneath a classroom.
Children as young as eight found the rifles, one of which was loaded, as they foraged
under a building at Musgrave Hill State School on Monday.
Despite a public appeal for information, police are yet to establish how the guns came
to be stashed there and why police were not alerted until Wednesday.
It's alleged the children told staff about their find, but …

NTT Com Strengthens Unified Communications Services for Arcstar Global IP-VPN Users
Type: News
NTT Communications Corp. (NTT Com) said that its Arcstar Unified Communications Services will introduce the SIP Trunking Plan to allow Arcstar Global IP-VPN users to dial external lines for low- rate voice communications worldwide.
According to the Company, the service initially will be offered to customers in Singapore and then gradually expanded to cover other regions, making the plan available worldwide by March 2012. Incoming calls from external lines will be covered under the plan from April 2012 at the earliest.
The SIP Trunking Plan will reduce total cost of ownership by unifying voice and data communications over Arcstar Global IP-VPN. Operation and maintenance will also be simplified by this one-stop solution combining the necessary systems and hardware for voice and data, including network and devices (VoIP gateway).
Arcstar Unified Communications Services currently offer IP-based internal dialing among global offices, including within Japan, under the Extension Plan. The newly expanded Arcstar Unified Communications Services will provide globally seamless unified voice, video, web conferencing, voice messaging, presence and instant messaging for Arcstar Global IP-VPN, backed by NTT Com's experience in networks, cloud computing and data centers.
To further meet growing market needs for low-cost worldwide internal/external voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) services, Arcstar Unified Communications Services noted that it will add two more plans this year: the UCaaS (Unified Communications as a Service) Plan in August and the Contact Center Plan for globally seamless SaaS call-center services in December. Enterprise customers will be able to enhance the efficiency of their global communications by integrating these plans with the SIP Trunking Plan.

WA:WA residents urged to flee bushfire zone
PERTH, Dec 2 AAP - An evacuation alert has been issued to properties in Western Australia's
southeast as a large bushfire closes in.
The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) has declared an emergency situation
for the shires of Nannup and Augusta-Margaret River.
Residents east of Milyeannup Coast Road and south of Governor Broome Road, including
Molloy Island and east Augusta, have already begun leaving their homes.
FESA says the blaze is contained, but if conditions worsen homes could be impacted
on Friday night.
Locals have been warned they are in danger and must move quickly.
A relocation point has been set up at Augusta's Centennial Hall on Allnutt Terrace.
The elderly and children evacuated on Thursday night and other residents began leaving
on Friday afternoon, a Molloy property owner told AAP.
A recorded message for the Molloy Island Homeowners Association says the fire jumped
containment lines at 11.15am (WST) on Friday and more home owners were in the process
of evacuating.
Fire and Rescue Service firefighters are on standby on Molloy Island.
A type one helitac, up to six fixed wing water bombers and two aerial intelligence
helicopters have also been sent to assist ground crews.
Three boats from the Augusta Volunteer Marine Rescue and Margaret River Volunteer Sea
Rescue groups are also on stand-by at Augusta Town Jetty to evacuate people from East
Augusta if necessary.
Meanwhile, an emergency warning remains in place for anyone within a 5km radius of
the junction of Milyeannup Coast Road and Woodarburrup Road in the Shire of Nannup where
a fire is burning out of control.
Two farm sheds have been destroyed so far with minor damage to one house and ancillary
structures.
FESA says flames up to 5m high are racing through tea-tree and paperbark wetlands where
access is limited due to boggy conditions.
More than 38,800 hectares have been blackened so far.
Some 80 career and volunteer Bush Fire Service, Department of Environment and Conservation,
Nannup Shire and plantation industry firefighters are battling to strengthen containment
lines.
They are back burning away from Milyeannup Coast Road.
Although firefighters are currently holding the fire within containment lines, conditions
could deteriorate rapidly, FESA warns.

Ipnetzone Selects XO Communications for Nationwide Ethernet Access
Type: News
XO Communications said that Ipnetzone Communications will use XO Communications' nationwide Ethernet access network to extend its service capabilities to more business locations and expand its Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Exchange Platform.
According to the company, Ipnetzone specializes in private-line, metro Ethernet and multiprotocol label switching solutions that can be deployed through its MEP fabric. The Ipnetzone is a global MPLS Exchange Platform that allows for the construction of Multiprotocol Label Switching networks across multiple carriers, thus enabling connectivity to global markets and facilities.
Ipnetzone officials said the company currently uses XO Communications as its primary network services provider to connect data centers and provide network access solutions across the country. Under the terms of the new agreement, XO Communications will also provide Ipnetzone with nationwide access solutions leveraging XO's Ethernet over copper footprint.
"Based on our long-standing relationship with XO Communications and their deployment of over 400 Ethernet over copper-enabled local service offices, we see this as the next logical step in building a stronger relationship between the companies," said Anthony Hidalgo, chief operating officer of Ipnetzone. "With the growing demand for IP-based services from multi-location customers, it was clear that XO's nationwide Ethernet network footprint and our MEP would create a greater benefit for our customers."
Ipnetzone Communications is a privately held global network provider based in New York and provides international data, Internet, MPLS, and managed network and monitoring solutions to enterprise and carrier clients internationally.
XO Communications is a nationwide provider of broadband communications services and solutions for businesses, enterprises, government, carriers and service providers.

NSW:NSW schools toxic heater cost blowout
Industry experts says replacing toxic gas heaters in NSW schools could take up to a
decade and the cost will balloon way past the 170 million dollars estimated by the state
government.
In another blow for Premier KRISTINA KENEALLY and her Education Minister VERITY FIRTH
.. the Sun Herald says some schools will have to have their entire electricity supply
upgraded .. at a cost of about 150 thousand dollars each .. to switch heating methods.
The paper says it has also learnt that sections of the NSW public service believe the
government's bungled commitment to replace 55 thousand heaters is a purely political decision
seven months out from an election.
They say unflued heaters .. millions of which are used in the US .. Britain and New
Zealand .. are perfectly safe.

WA: Terrorist death not yet confirmed: Smith
By Aleisha Preedy
PERTH, Aug 9 AAP - The Australian government won't be "leaping to any conclusions"
as it waits for confirmation that Southeast Asia's most wanted terrorist suspect has been
killed, Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith says.
Noordin Mohammed Top is believed to be one of three men killed during a police raid
on a suspected militant hide-out in Indonesia on Saturday.
Mr Smith on Sunday said it would be only a matter "of hours or days, rather than days
or weeks" until Indonesian authorities could confirm if Noordin was alive.
"We know there has been at least one death and arrests have been made," Mr Smith told
reporters in Perth.
"As a general proposition, no country has been more successful than Indonesia in bringing
terrorists to account."
Noordin is believed to have been the mastermind behind the bombings at Jakarta's JW
Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels on July 17, where three Australians were killed.
He was also thought to have planned and orchestrated the bomb attack on the Australian
embassy in Jakarta in 2004 and the Bali bombings in 2005.
Mr Smith said the government's thoughts went out to the families of Indonesian terrorist
attack victims and assured he was in close contact with counterpart authorities.
He said Prime Minister Kevin Rudd planned to speak to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono late Sunday afternoon.
"One of the things we value very much about our close relationship with Indonesia is
the very close working relationship that our agencies, Australian Federal Police and other
counter-terrorism agencies have," Mr Smith said.
"Of course we are waiting for the Indonesian authorities to confirm one way or the
other whether the victim of one of the operations is Noordin Top.
Mr Smith said Noordin was a terrorist who Australians wanted to see brought to justice.
"But as the Indonesian police chief said late last night Australian time, the Indonesian
authorities are going through the process of confirming whether the victim of the police
operation is Noordin Top.
"In my experience that I have made clear in the past, one is always best not speculating,
but waiting until we are confident of the facts and proceedings on that basis.
"We won't be leaping to any conclusions."

Fed: Please adopt a bushfire community: Govt
CANBERRA, Feb 15 AAP - People have been urged to adopt a bushfire-ravaged community
by kitting out their sports clubs, churches and kindergartens with new gear.
Federal Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner said ordinary people could make a big difference
to the emotional recovery of fire victims.
"A local cricket club will lose its ground, but it's probably lost its gear as well,
kinders ... won't have toys, they won't have books," the Melbourne MP told Network Ten
on Sunday.
"I'd like to see other community groups, organisations, around the state, around the
country ... partnering with those organisations, with those communities, to help contribute
those things.
"It will mean a lot more if that gear has come from your mates down the road, than
from a cheque from the government."
"Now, that's not to let us off the hook."
Governments stood ready to spend as much as was needed to construct buildings and other
infrastructure, but there was a role for communities to play in "emotional rebuilding",
Mr Tanner said.
Amid speculation about class actions against governments or private companies over
the devastating bushfires, Mr Tanner could not say if the federal government would fight
any class action lodged against it.
He said any such actions were more likely to be lodged against the Victorian government
because it had primary responsibility.
The federal government would work through legal issues if and when they arose, Mr Tanner said.

Meantime the Prime Minister has rejected DR HANEEF'S request to be made an honorary Australian.
JOHN HOWARD says the category doesn't exist .. and anyway it wouldn't be appropriate.
Alcohol (MELBOURNE)
Australia's about to be swamped by an entire generation whose brains have been damaged
by alcohol.

Australians place them at risk of permanent brain damage.

Vic: Police union hints at industrial action
MELBOURNE, Feb 13 AAP - The head of Victoria's police union has hinted at industrial
action if the Victorian government does not intervene in a dispute with police chief Christine
Nixon.
Police Association secretary Paul Mullett has accused Chief Commissioner Christine
Nixon of undermining the union by allowing former delegates of the union's executive to
make accusations of bullying and malpractice in the union on the ABC's Four Corners program
last night.
Mr Mullett said yesterday Ms Nixon had behaved unethically and tried to place puppet
delegates on the executive.
"This is starting to become a serious political problem for the Premier (Steve Bracks),"
he told The Age newspaper.
"We talk about conduct, about our members, and the Police Association preserves the
professionalisation of policing, but (Ms Nixon) is an independent authority, she has attempted
to control the Police Association, and there are serious ethical questions that need to
be raised.
"She needs to be reminded to focus on the key issues, not demean her position by trying
to control the Police Association."
Association members reserved their position on whether to take industrial action over
the issue, he said.
The union has set a March 1 deadline for the Victorian government to order Ms Nixon
to implement an audit of police resources it promised during last year's election campaign.
The government previously has avoided intervening in the dispute.
Mr Mullett said the appearance of former union president Janet Mitchell and former
delegate Gavan Ryan on the ABC proved Ms Nixon was undermining the union because she must
have permitted them to appear.

As our Web hosting needs grow, HostPro can scale with our business, giving us assurance that Web4Boats.com will be virtually free of any down-time with 365 days a year, twenty-four hours a day, seven-days-a-week monitoring of traffic flow and volume."
"As Web-based companies like Web4Boats.com find continued success and popularity on the Internet, it is critical for their businesses to be available 24x7," says Alex Kazerani, area vice president for hosting, HostPro. "HostPro is dedicated to delivering our customers the best quality of service and support as well as the right e-commerce tools so that they can focus on their own core competencies."
Web4boats selected HostPro based on exemplary credentials, reputation, size, growth potential and capability to beneficially manage Web4Boats.com's e-commerce services. HostPro has also been the recipient of numerous industry Web host awards highlighting excellent customer service and support.
Web4Boats.com targets the $23 billion recreational boating industry, and is quickly becoming the one-stop destination for recreational boating. The Web site currently lists more than 30,000 recreational boats of every type for sale with anticipation to have up to 170,000 boats listed for sale by this time next year, capturing nearly 1% of the total boats owned in the United States.
Boaters can visit the Web4Boats' Web-based marine mall to purchase recreational and commercial equipment as well as apparel and accessories. They can also find marine weather reports and information about boat insurance, financing and transportation services from "e-tailer" affiliates.
An important component of Web4Boats success is its dynamic affiliations with Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN), West Marine, Inc. (Nasdaq:WMAR), a leading marine product distributor, and other manufacturers, insurers, lenders, and content providers.
