School Rocks Canada Sweeps The Nation

What started out as a fun way to raise school spirit, increase musical awareness, and help keep kids in school, is becoming a favourite bonus in many schools. Enter School Rocks Canada (SRC).

"It's exciting to see how a small showcase for an emerging Canadian band has evolved into such a great initiative and successful School Event Program. I knew as soon as I saw the reaction of the students at the first show that this was a good thing. Now after nearly 40 performances we have become a great school spirit builder as well as a program that assists the schools to raise much needed funds to use to build programs, buy equipment for the schools, and in some cases the students choose to donate the funds they raise to a chanty," says Paul Borg, President of JAAC Entertainment and visionary behind SRC.

SRC works with each school's student council. Each student council is responsible for selling tickets, setting the price for tickets (around $2-$5), and the school keeps all of the money raised. Student council also runs a SRC poster contest, which not only stimulates teamwork but also helps promote the show.

Ivan Evidente, National Urban Marketing Manager at Universal Music Canada and the current host of the SRC tour says, "I'm very excited to be a part of SRC. This program not only promotes a positive environment through music but also serves as an educational forum for students to interact and, more importantly, understand the importance of staying in school. I look forward to visiting the various schools and am confident that this program will soon grow even bigger."

SRC brings to each school: a live daytime band performance with professional stage production, two free Rogers Vision/Samsung phones that are given away every show, free music CDs from Universal Music, free movie passes from Warner Brothers Pictures, free sports merchandise donations from Nike/Bauer, and $1,000 cash for every school at the end of the show.
